Justice Magdangal M. de Leon
Court of Appeals He obtained his Foreign Service degree at the University of the Philippines where he became Secretary General of the U.P. Foreign Service Corps and member of the Phi Kappa Phi International Honor Society and Pi Gamma Mu International Social Science Honor Society. He was among the top ten in his batch who graduated from the UP College of Law in 1972. In 1976, he entered government service as a Trial Attorney in the Office of the Solicitor General. Rising from the ranks, he was appointed Assistant Solicitor General (ASG) in 1991. In 2004, he was appointed Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals. Presently, he is a faculty member and bar reviewer at the Ateneo Law School and other law schools. He is a member of the International Consultants Group, Rules and Principles of Transnational Civil Procedure, sponsored by the American Law Institute. Music is his other great love. A son of National Artist for Music Felipe Padilla de Leon, he is a composer (Philippine Army March, Philippine Coast Guard Hymn, Rotary Hymn, IBP March, PLEB March, OSG March, U.P. Law Graduation Hymn, Grand Lodge of the Philippines March, etc.), singer (former member and soloist of the Philippine Madrigal Singers), choral conductor and arranger. He has conducted the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra and the Manila Symphony Orchestra, and served as judge at the National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA) and the Yamaha Guitar Competition. He plays the flute, guitar, piano and rondalla instruments. He is married to Patria Manalastas-de Leon, Presiding Judge of RTC-Muntinlupa City, Branch 206, with whom he has three children, Pantas, Alaya and Aldo. |
